Wasl Properties
Wasl Properties is the development and property arm of wasl Asset Management Group, a semi-government company established on 25 May 2008 by Dubai Real Estate Corporation through the merger of two public-sector bodies, the Dubai Development Board and the Real Estate Department. It is chaired by Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, with Hesham Abdulla Al Qassim as chief executive of wasl (he is also vice chairman of DREC). wasl is primarily one of Dubai's largest landlords and asset managers — the company states it has more than 50,000 properties under management across residential, commercial and industrial stock, plus hotels — and its freehold for-sale development business sits inside that wider group alongside wasl Hospitality & Leisure and Dubai Golf.
What Wasl builds
Mid-rise and high-rise apartment buildings in central Dubai plus, at Jumeirah Golf Estates, townhouses and villas — priced from mid-market at wasl Gate and wasl1 up to the upper tier for golf-course villas, and associated mainly with wasl1 (Al Kifaf/Za'abeel, by Zabeel Park), wasl Gate (Jebel Ali), Jumeirah Golf Estates and the older Deira and Bur Dubai districts it has long managed.
wasl has been operating in Dubai property since 2008, though more of that record is in leasing and asset management than in off-plan sales, and its for-sale freehold business is the newer side of the group. Its clearest delivery reference is Park Gate Residences at wasl1 — 746 apartments across four towers, built from August 2017, completed in November 2020 and handed over from 2020 — and it delivered the Hyatt Regency Dubai Creek Heights in 2014. Government backing means less counterparty risk than a private developer of similar size, but buyers should still check progress project by project, as the current freehold pipeline (Nine Collective, Avenue Park Towers II, Boulevard Park, Pinewood Estate Homes, Ashwood Estates and the wider Jumeirah Golf Estates expansion) is mostly still under construction. Note that wasl did not originate Jumeirah Golf Estates: the community was launched in the mid-2000s by Leisurecorp, a Dubai World subsidiary, later sat under Investment Corporation of Dubai, and wasl now develops and operates it.
