Emaar Properties
Emaar Properties was founded and incorporated in Dubai in 1997 by Mohamed Alabbar, who is now its Managing Director; Jamal Bin Theniyah has been chairman since December 2020, when Alabbar moved to the executive role because UAE listed-company rules bar a chairman from holding executive responsibilities. It listed on the Dubai Financial Market in 2000 and was the first property company to offer its shares to foreign nationals, and it remains state-linked: in May 2026 Dubai Holding acquired a 22.27% stake from the Investment Corporation of Dubai, taking its total holding to 29.73% and making it Emaar's largest shareholder. Emaar states it has delivered more than 130,900 residential units in Dubai and its international markets since 2002 and holds a land bank of around 590 million sq ft, which places it among the largest developers in Dubai.
What Emaar builds
Full master-planned communities rather than single buildings: the towers of Downtown Dubai, the villa and townhouse districts of Dubai Hills Estate, Arabian Ranches, The Valley and The Oasis, and waterfront apartments at Dubai Creek Harbour, Emaar Beachfront and Rashid Yachts & Marina. Pricing sits in the mid to upper tiers.
Emaar has one of the longest continuous delivery records in Dubai, having built and handed over through the 2008-09 downturn, and it delivered the Burj Khalifa and The Dubai Mall. Its completed communities have deep resale and rental liquidity, and the market generally treats its handover reliability and build quality as the benchmark, though that is a reputational judgement rather than a published statistic. Individual phases of very large projects can still slip, so confirm the stated handover quarter on the specific launch.
Publicly listed on DFM (EMAAR); Dubai Holding is the largest shareholder at 29.73% since May 2026 · Founded 1997
